About UP House

UP House is a community located in Montréal, established in 2010. The founders aimed to create a place that eliminates social isolation and rebuilds the confidence, purpose, and community of adults living with long term mental health conditions. We are an evidence-based model referred to as a “Clubhouse,” and we are one of 370 clubhouses worldwide: the only clubhouse in Québec.

One in five Canadians experiences mental health challenges each year, and across Montreal, more people than ever are seeking support—with over 33,000 crisis calls last year and rising rates of anxiety and depression, particularly among young people. In response to these challenges, communities everywhere are recognizing the power of connection, purpose, and peer support.

The Clubhouse model offers exactly that: a place where people are not defined by their mental health but celebrated in for who they are. Through meaningful work, genuine relationships, and a culture of mutual support, Clubhouses help members reclaim their lives and build lasting recovery.
Clubhouse International evidence shows that there is 85% reduced hospitalisation one year after becoming a member of UP House.

Now more than ever, Montreal needs spaces where people can belong, contribute, and thrive together.

Maison Alcan – our Chosen Venue

Maison Alcan Heritage Complex, located in the heart of Montreal’s Golden Square Mile, is many things all at once: a public atrium, a café, and venue – plus it is a gorgeous space for people to work, meet, exchange and discover. Maison Alcan is one of the most important and iconic heritage sites in the country, acting as a symbol of Quebec’s resilience against the migration of businesses to the rest of Canada at a pivotal moment in the country’s history.
